PNEUMOCONIOSIS

We are leading specialists in Pneumoconiosis.

Pneumoconiosis is the term referring to a group of lung diseases caused by the inhalation – and retention in the lungs – of dusts.
Pneumoconiosis cases can be classified within four groups;

  1. Coal worker’s pneumoconiosis
  2. Asbestosis
  3. Silicosis
  4. Other unspecified pneumoconiosis

The most common occurring types of pneumoconiosis (apart from asbestosis) are coal worker’s pneumoconiosis arising from the inhalation of coal dust and silicosis arising from the inhalation of respirable crystalline silica (RCS).

The latency period for pneumoconiosis is 10+ years.

The industries affected for silicosis and other pneumoconiosis cases are as follows;

  • Quarrying
  • Foundries
  • Potteries

The number of cases presented for coal worker’s pneumoconiosis continue to fall year on in but the number of cases for silicosis or other pneumoconiosis cases remains static.
